Railings and Balustrades

Railing, stair railing or French balcony

For a balcony, terrace or landing, choose a railing on posts: horizontal square bars, as on the Steel Balustrade, or glass panes between square steel posts. For steps, the frame follows the pitch of the flight; the Outdoor Stair Railing is made for garden, terrace and entrance steps. For a floor-to-ceiling window or French door without a balcony slab, choose a French balcony: vertical bars, glass infill, a flat Juliet guard close to the facade, or horizontal profiles.

The wall decides how a French balcony is fixed. On a wall without a thick insulation layer, the face-mounted model is anchored through plates into the masonry or concrete behind the render. On an insulated facade, the French balcony anchored through insulation stands on steel stand-off brackets anchored into the structural wall. The glazed models hold the glass either along its edge in a continuous profile or in bolt-through clamps.

What to send and how it is made

For a railing, send a sketch with the lengths and the fixing method; for stairs, the number of steps, their going and rise and the length of the flight. For a French balcony, send the width and height of the opening, the facade type and a photo, and for an insulated wall the insulation and render thickness. Add the guard height required where you live and any design documents: a drawing or a catalogue name alone does not confirm compliance with local requirements.

The steel railings are welded from structural steel; powder coating in any RAL colour is available. Most steel models can be hot-dip galvanised, as standard or as an option; aluminium needs no galvanising. Some glazed models use safety glass, with the build-up stated on the product page or, where it is set for the project, in your order confirmation. Your order confirmation states dimensions, finish, fixings and what is included before you pay; for staircases, see Stairs and Access.
