A stand instead of a ceiling hook

Most hanging chairs assume a joist you can trust and a landlord who agrees. This one brings its own structure: a welded tripod in round steel tube, splayed wide for a broad footing, standing on three foot pads on a firm, level floor, and light enough that two people can carry it from the living room out onto the terrace.

The seat

The round seat is welded from steel flat bar with even gaps between the slats. It takes a standard round cushion, and without one it reads as furniture rather than as a hammock. Outdoors, steel does not soak up rain or grow mildew the way a fabric shell does, so a wipe after a shower is all it needs.

Made to measure

Hub height is matched to your ceiling and to the people using the chair: hung too high it swings into the legs, too low and it drags. The standard stand is 2000 mm high with about 1400 mm leg spread; for another room, send the room height and roughly how tall the users are for a quotation, and we set the hub height and leg spread to suit. Seat diameter can be adjusted to the cushion you already own.

• Round slatted seat in steel flat bar
• Three foot pads for a firm, level floor, paving or decking; ground pegs or screw-down plates on request
• Shot blasted, primed and powder-coated or wet-painted

Finish

Powder coating or wet painting in any RAL colour. Graphite and black sit quietly in an interior, while a bright colour turns the chair into a proper statement on a terrace.
