Solid roof canopy or open frame?

The canopy with a sheet steel roof keeps rain and snow off the entrance: it has a built-in fall and a drip edge that sheds water away from the door. The open frame with a grid of rafters has no roof covering, so its main job is to draw a line above the entrance and cast striped shade. Both are carried on brackets bolted to the wall, with no posts in front of the door, and both are welded to size in any RAL colour.
